Learn to Row

The Learn to Row program in 2023 is designed to introduce participants to the sport of rowing in crew boats and teach proper sweep (one oar) rowing technique for anyone that has no prior rowing experience. The program includes 10 hours (5 x 2h) of small group coaching and will cover equipment handling and safety, getting in/out of the boat, stroke sequence, rowing, backing, turning and docking.

You do not need to be a member of the club in order to participate in a 2023 Learn to Row program.

We also offer Para Rowing for people with a wide range of abilities and unique needs, including the parasport classifications P1, P2, and P3. Click here for more information.

Fitness Level Requirements:

Participants must be 18 years or older and for safety reasons, be able to swim 50 meters. There is a maximum weight for rowers in our teaching boats of 220 lbs. Rowers need to have the flexibility to squat for getting in and out of the boat as well as have the ability to hoist themselves out of the water; similar to getting out at a pool or dock’s edge.

Benefits and Progression:

Safety: All Learn to Row sessions are taught by a qualified coach.

Benefits: Learn to Row is a program that stresses the importance of teamwork and commitment to a crew, as well as improves fitness.

Progression: Once you have completed your Learn to Row classes, you can join the Club in the Learn to Train program where skills, technical ability, and fitness can be improved. In Learn to Train you will have the opportunity to learn how to scull in small boats–singles and doubles.

Eligibility: No prior rowing experience required. Age 18+

Reserve your spot with confidence:

During these uncertain times of COVID-19 we want to reduce the risk to anyone considering reserving their spots for Learn to Row and Camp Argo as a result of COVID-19. If any sessions are lost, disrupted or simply not able to occur we will guarantee 100% refunds as peace of mind.

2023 Schedule

In 2023, participants are required to attend all sessions and to be at each lesson for the duration of the session. Please do not be late. There are no make-up sessions.

If a participant misses a lesson, it is the responsibility of the participant to contact the instructor to arrange private lessons to complete the learn to row curriculum; standard private lesson fees will apply.
