Learn to Row
for Learn to Row
2020 Registration is Now Open
Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, and the requirements of the provincial government and the City Public Health department to maintain physical distancing, we are offering only Learn to Scull lessons until further notice.
Learn to Scull
The Learn to Scull program is designed to introduce participants to the sport of rowing in singles shells and teach proper sculling technique for anyone that has no prior rowing experience. The program includes 9 hours (6 x 1.5h) of small group coaching and will cover equipment handling and safety, getting in/out of the boat, stroke sequence, rowing, backing, turning and docking. All Learn to Row sessions are taught by a qualified coach.
Fitness Level Requirements:
Participants must be able to swim 50 meters. There is a maximum weight for rowers in our teaching boats of 220 lbs. Rowers need to have the flexibility to squat for getting in and out of the boat.
Benefits and Progression:
Learn to Row is a program that stresses the importance of teamwork and commitment to a crew, as well as improves fitness. Once you have completed your Learn to Row classes, you can join the Learn to Train program where skills, technical ability, and fitness can be improved.
Participants are required to attend all sessions and to be at each lesson for the duration of the session. Please do not be late. There are no make-up sessions. If a participant misses a lesson, it is the responsibility of the participant to contact the instructor to arrange private lessons to complete the sculling class curriculum; standard private lesson fees will apply.
