Junior Novice

For athletes that have just completed their Learn-to-Row or Camp Argo, and are looking to further develop their skills. This option provides two on-water and one land training session. Building on the lessons learned in Camp Argo or our Junior Learn-to-Row, coaches will help you develop your fitness while teaching you to skills needed to succeed in rowing and in life.

Junior Novice Rowing starts on May 2 and runs until October 30, at which time all Novice athletes join the Junior Development Team for the Winter Season.

Junior Novice athletes attend only a few regattas per year.

Junior Novice practices are Mondays & Thursdays 4:30 – 6:30 PM, and Sundays 9:30 – 11:30 AM

Contact Junior Coach Nikki Morrison at juniorcoordinator@argonautrowingclub.com for more information.

Junior Development

For rowers that want to join Junior Performance but need more time to learn technique and build fitness. Athletes can expect to learn the basics of strength and conditioning, nutrition, and sports psychology, and will experience different types of rowing (sculling/sweeping) in a variety of boat classes, supervised by an NCCP trained coach. Junior Development athletes attend several regattas.

When athletes have developed strong fitness and rowing skills, they may choose to move to the Junior Performance Team. This transition generally takes place at the start of a new season (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, as shown in the schedules below).

Junior Development athletes train on Wednesdays and Fridays 4:30 – 6:30 PM, and Sundays 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM.

Contact Junior Coach Nikki Morrison at juniorcoordinator@argonautrowingclub.com for more information.

Junior Performance

For experienced athletes that want to compete at the highest levels and prepare for rowing in College/University. Athletes can expect at least 6 training sessions per week (depending on the season) fully supervised by an NCCP certified coach. Sessions include weight training and land training at the ARC clubhouse in addition to their on-water training. Junior Performance athletes attend most regattas.

Athletes can expect to train in a variety of boats, and will undergo selection for all premier events (listed below). More information about our selection process can be found here.

The ARC will hold a training camp for competitive athletes in early March each year, taking place outside of the province (often in Florida or the Carolinas) and lasting approximately 10 days. The average cost for this camp is approximately $1,900.00.

*Please note that all memberships are annual; the various seasons are listed above for your reference but do not reflect separate membership options
