Junior – 12 to 18
High school student: $752
Junior rowing is a growing and exciting part of the Argonaut Rowing Club. Interested athletes aged 12-18 are encouraged to come visit and try out for our Junior Program. The ARC is pleased to offer the following programs for its 2016 Junior Program:
1. High Performance (ages 16-18). This program requires athletes to train 10-12x/week. The aim for athletes in this program is to try-out and qualify for Rowing Canada’s Junior National Team. Athletes in this program will compete at Spring Trials in May and Final Trials in June, with the goal of being selected to Rowing Canada’s teams for the CanAmMex and World Junior Championship regattas in the Summer.
2. Competitive (ages 14-18). This program requires athletes to train 6x/week in set crews. The goal for this program is to prepare athletes to compete at the CSSRA, RowOntario, and Royal Canadian Henley Championship regattas, as well as several other local competitions in Central Ontario.
3. Development (ages 12-18). This program is offered for athletes who cannot, whether due to scheduling or ability, train at the levels above. This program allows athletes to train 2-3x/week without having set crews. The goal for athletes in this program is to improve their rowing fitness and skills so that they may eventually move up to join the competitive program. Additionally, athletes in this program are encouraged to compete at our own Development regattas, the Hogtown Heats in August and the Frostbite Sprints in October.
Practice times run from 5-7 am on weekday mornings; 4:30-6:30 pm on weekday afternoons; and 8 am-12 (noon) on Saturday mornings. Depending on which program and coach they train with, athletes will be given specific training dates and boat allocations within these windows.
As well, the ARC offers Camp Argo Learn-to-Row programs weekly during the summer. Camp Argo is ideal for young athletes aged 11-16 with no prior rowing experience. For more information and schedules about Camp Argo, click here.
