A PROUD HISTORY, A BRIGHT FUTURE

Recreational Rowing

Overview

The ARC Recreational Rowing Program is the largest program within the Club. Recreational rowing provides an alternative to competitive rowing for those who already know how to row but don't have the time, ability or interest to row in the intense competitive programs.

The Development Program, within the Recreational rowing program also provides an entry into the sport as athletes transition out of the Learn-To-Row (LTR) program, which teaches the basics of sweep rowing.

Almost anyone who has rowed will tell you it's an addictive sport - once you start, you won't want to stop! And rowing is rewarding and challenging, demanding both physical strength and mental discipline and teaches the values of teamwork, dedication and tradition.

Recreational Rowing schedule and races

Mon/Wed 6:30 p.m - 8:30 OR Tue/Thu 6:30-8:30 (Sat 9 a.m.-11am at crew's option)

Our recreational crews typically row 2 or 3 times per week in either 4-oared or 8-oared boats. Many crews also arrange off-water training programs to increase their fitness levels and rowing proficiency. Each session will be instructed by a Rec Rowing Coordinator and/or Head Coach Kerry Knight, with guest coaches on occasion. Each crew must provide its own coxswain.

We encourage all recreational crews to participate in our monthly Learn To Row (LTR) barbeque and race nights. After the LTR crews race, rec crews will race each other, then join the LTRers on the deck for BBQ and beverages. There is no fee to enter these regattas, but if rec crews wish to participate in the "Tops and Bottoms" regatta at the Don Rowing Club, or our own "Hogtown Heats" (Aug.15 and 16 respectively) or any other sanctioned regatta, additional RCA and RowOntario competitive fees must be paid along with the regatta entry fees.

How to Sign-up

ARC is hosting a recreational rowing meeting at the club on May 12th at 7pm.  People who are interested in recreational rowing are invited to attend this meeting to meet fellow rec rowers, coaches and form crews and training timetables. If you are unable to attend this meeting, but are interested in the program please contact the head coach Sheila Lindsey.

You may sign up for Mon/Wed/(Sat) OR Tue/Thu/(Sat). Please note that Membership fees MUST be paid before you can row. (If you are a graduate from learn-to-row this year, you may select the $125 discount membership category).

Crew timetables and spares lists will be posted on the Recreational Rowing page in the "Members' Only" section of the website.

It is never too late to join - hope to see you on the docks!
