A PROUD HISTORY, A BRIGHT FUTURE

Competitive Rowing

Overview
The Competitive Rowing Program is open to all experienced rowers, and is a year round program.  The program involves an intensive training schedule with morning and afternoon practices.  All morning practices are mandatory, with the afternoon practices being designed to enable athletes to achieve their higher performance goals such as Henley and NRCs.

Competitive RowerThe  “Comp” program exists for all men and women who wish to train at a high performance level. The Competitive squad consists of lightweight, heavyweight, senior and Under 23 categories.

A 2k erg test will be held at the club in the early Spring.  Drag factors will be set according to the RCA norms, and lightweights will be weighed.  This erg test will help determine the competitiveness of the squad as well as training groupings. Crews will be selected by program coaches, based on erg scores, seat racing, pack rowing, and boat moving ability. Entries for races will be dependant of the competitiveness of the squad.  Final selection for Henley will be determined no later than July 22 by program coaches.

After Henley, ARC continues to field strong Comp crews at most regattas during the fall, including Head of the Trent, Welland and Charles.Following Henley there will be RADAR testing for the entire squad prior to athletes returning to their respective university programs. Those who remain at ARC will continue with their training for NRCs in the fall.
