A PROUD HISTORY, A BRIGHT FUTURE

About the Argonaut Rowing Club

Club Operations

ARC is led by a Board of Directors and supported by various committees. The corporation’s by-laws set out the rules for operation. and longer term perspective comes from the Strategic Plan. We are very fortunate to have members that are generous with their time and resources.
Please respect that generosity when you are looking for assistance and/or guidance, and recognize that their time volunteering does take away from their time rowing.

 Captain and Head Coach

The Club Captain (or co-captains) is a volunteer who has been delegated the responsibility of the day-to-day rowing and dockside decisions. The Captain is assisted in his/her role by the Head Coach who is the only full-time employee of the Club. The Captain is the chair of the rowing committee which draws from the coaching staff and ensures input from all programs. Other positions are filled by volunteer members and can become available at various times throughout the season. If you are interested in helping out, please contact the club captain or Head Coach. The Club Captain sits as an ex-officio Director of the Board and the Head Coach attends all Board meetings.

The Board of Directors is primarily responsible for long-term planning, financial and administrative decisions. Each year three elected members terms (out of nine) come up for renewal at the Annual General Meeting. All directors and sub-committees work toward the best decisions for the club overall, therefore communications flow freely between the groups. The board is also joined by representatives from our affiliates, Branksome Hall and ARCA, who sit on the board in an ex-officio capacity.

Argonaut Rowing Club Trust was created with the funds generated from the sale of the Argonaut Football Team and its goal is to facilitate rowing at the Argonaut Rowing Club. (Further information on this relationship can be obtained from the Board of Directors or at the annual general meeting in November).

The Argonaut Rowing Club is fortunate to have Branksome Hall as an affiliate organization. Branksome Hall and Argos share equipment and Branksome Hall has priority over their equipment during the high school racing season (generally in the spring).

Club History
The Argonaut Rowing Club was founded in 1872; however, its history, personalities, and accomplishments speak much louder than the club's 130 + years. The club is part of a long line in rowing history, populating the mythology of the art and sport of rowing.
